Dulera (mometasone furoate and formoterol) is prescribed for the maintenance treatment of asthma in adults and children aged 12 years and older. Mometasone is a corticosteroid that decreases airway inflammation, while formoterol is a long-acting bronchodilator (LABA) that relaxes the muscles around the airways, improving airflow and reducing symptoms.
Dulera is administered via a metered-dose inhaler, usually twice daily, morning and evening, with or without food. Shake the inhaler well before use and follow the inhalation instructions carefully. Do not use it to relieve sudden asthma attacks — use a rescue inhaler instead.
Inform your doctor if you have a history of heart disease, high blood pressure, diabetes, tuberculosis, or fungal infections. Monitor for signs of worsening asthma, changes in heart rate, or oral thrush. Rinse your mouth after each use to reduce the risk of oral infections.
Do not use Dulera if allergic to mometasone, formoterol, or any component of the inhaler. It is contraindicated for the treatment of acute asthma attacks or status asthmaticus.
Common side effects include headache, throat irritation, hoarseness, cough, or mild oral thrush. Serious side effects may include paradoxical bronchospasm, allergic reactions, heart rhythm changes, or worsening asthma symptoms. Seek medical attention if severe symptoms occur.
Dulera may interact with other corticosteroids, beta-agonists, antifungal medications, or drugs affecting heart rhythm. Inform your doctor about all prescription medications, over-the-counter products, and supplements you are taking.
If a dose is missed, take it as soon as you remember, but do not double the dose. Continue with the regular schedule.
Overdose may lead to excessive corticosteroid effects, heart rhythm changes, or increased blood pressure. Seek immediate medical attention if an overdose is suspected.
Store Dulera inhaler at room temperature, away from heat, moisture, and direct sunlight. Keep the inhaler capped and out of reach of children.
